Visitors may drive in the United States with a foreign driver's license, but many states expect a 1949 Geneva Convention IDP when the license is not in English.

Core Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old and hold a full valid license.
  • Carry original license; provisional permits not accepted.
  • Obtain 1949 IDP if license is not in English.
  • Vehicle insurance meeting state minimums.

  • Driving side: right-hand traffic
