Terms and Conditions
These terms govern your use of International Automobile Council services. They are written in plain English — read them once, and ask us anything that isn't clear.
1. Who we are
International Automobile Council (“IAC,” “we,” “us,” “our”) provides International Driving Permit (IDP) application and processing services. We prepare a multilingual translation of your domestic driver’s license and deliver it as a digital document — and, on the Digital + IDP PVC Card plan, as a wallet-size IDP PVC card as well, delivered digitally as a print-ready file.
We facilitate the application process but we are not a government agency, an automotive association, or an issuing authority. The IDP is a translation of your domestic driver’s license and is valid only when accompanied by your original license.
2. The agreement between us
By accessing our website and placing an order, you confirm that you:
- Are at least 18 years of age;
- Possess a valid driver’s license from your country of residence;
- Provide accurate and complete information during the application process; and
- Have read and accepted these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Legal Disclaimer.
An order is accepted when we send you a confirmation email. Until then, no contract exists and we may decline an order for any lawful reason — for example, an application that is obviously incomplete or inaccurate, or suspected fraud.
3. What you’re buying
You are purchasing a translation document and — depending on the plan you choose — an IDP PVC card. You are not purchasing a substitute for your domestic driver’s license, a government-issued ID, or any authorization to drive that you did not already hold.
The validity period of your IDP (1, 2, or 3 years, depending on the plan you select at checkout) runs from the date the digital permit is issued, and it ceases to be usable if your underlying domestic license is suspended, revoked, or expires.
4. Application process
The application process involves:
- Completing the online application form with accurate personal information;
- Uploading a digital copy of your valid driver’s license;
- Providing a recent passport-sized photograph;
- Making the required payment for processing; and
- Reviewing and confirming your application details.
Once your application is approved, your digital IDP is delivered to your email inbox in minutes.
5. Fees and payment
All fees are clearly displayed during the application process and include:
- Processing fees for the IDP application; and
- Any applicable taxes.
All payments are processed securely through our payment gateway. We accept major credit cards and other payment methods as indicated during checkout. We never see or store your full card details.
6. Delivery
Digital permits are delivered by email in minutes once your application is approved. If you selected the Digital + IDP PVC Card plan, your print-ready card file is delivered in the same instant download — full details, including how to re-download your files, are in our Delivery Policy.
7. Refund policy
Due to the nature of our services, all sales are final once the application has been processed. Refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis for unprocessed applications, or in cases where we are unable to fulfill your order. Please contact our customer support for assistance.
8. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate information in your application;
- Carrying both your domestic license and your IDP while driving abroad;
- Complying with the road rules of the country you are driving in; and
- Only operating vehicle classes you are legally permitted to drive under your domestic license.
We do not provide legal driving advice. Country-specific information on our site is informational only and may change without notice.
9. Intellectual property
The International Automobile Council name, website design, and content are owned by us. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or modify any part of the site without our written consent, except for personal, non-commercial use — such as saving a country guide for an upcoming trip.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, International Automobile Council is not responsible for any accidents, injuries, damages, or legal consequences resulting from the use or misuse of the IDP. The IDP is not a substitute for a valid driver’s license and must be used in conjunction with your original license.
11. Governing law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which International Automobile Council operates, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
12. Changes to these terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting on our website, and the “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
