- Police (tránsito) checkpoints are frequent; intercity roads carry tolls, and travellers are warned about occasional fake toll booths — pay only at signed, official peajes and keep receipts
- On the old North Yungas 'Death Road', local custom reverses the rule: vehicles keep left so downhill drivers can judge the cliff edge
