Requisitos Principales
- Valid national driving licence in the driver's own name — carry the original at all times along with your passport; an IDP is only a translation and never replaces the licence
- 1949-format IDP strongly advised: Mali acceded to the 1949 Geneva Convention by succession on 19 Nov 1962 and does not appear among parties to the 1968 Vienna Convention. The FCDO states a UK photocard licence can be used in Mali and names the 1949 IDP mainly for paper-licence holders
- Avis's Bamako location sets a minimum age of 21 for all car groups, wants a licence issued in the driver's country of residence, and requires an IDP where the licence is in a non-Roman alphabet — other suppliers set their own terms, so confirm at booking
- Arrange motor insurance valid in Mali, and confirm temporary-import paperwork for a foreign-registered vehicle with your insurer and Malian customs before you travel
